The Clearing is an adult school of discovery in the arts, natural sciences, and humanities located on a high bluff above the waters of Green Bay in Door County, Wisconsin. The Clearing’s natural setting, secluded cluster of historic buildings of wood and stone, and program topics are conducive to clearing one’s mind and coming to a better understanding of nature and one’s own place in the world. Simplicity, artistic surroundings, small classes, and excellent teachers combine to foster learning in a cooperative, family-like atmosphere. The Clearing emanates a “mystique” that is not easily described, but is evident in the enthusiasm of its participants and alumni.
Accommodations: Situated on 128 wooded acres, The Clearing is on the National Register of Historic Places. The lodge
includes a lounge and library, dining room, and guest quarters for visiting instructors. Smaller buildings provide dormitories and private rooms for 28 students. All buildings are log or native stone, blending with the rustic, natural setting. Call for rate info.
